moving companies? we are moving at the end of August out of state. we have been trying to look up the cheapest why to move an entire one bedroom apartment 1250 miles up the cali coast. we have looked at moving it ourselves verses moving companies. we have 2 cars to move up there too... any ideas on what the cheapest or most reliable ways to go about doing this are?

When I look in the phone book or online some companies are listed as moving companies, some say moving and storage, some say transfer company. My husband and I are preparing for a move. I was wondering do moving companies work on weekends? We would be having a full service move (ie. packing, moving, etc.) It would be nice if one of us could fly in Friday night...pack up, and then leave on Sunday. Will the tariff change for moving companies make a interstate move more expensive? I need to move from the west coast to the east coast in December 2007 or January 2008. I was told that beginning in 2008, moving companies can set their own price tariff and not have to all use the same one they are now using..... although they can continue to use the 2007 tariff if they choose............ Do moving companies charge by the pound and by distance? May be moving, not sure. Trying to plan ahead re which items would be too heavy and costly to move, what to take, and what to get rid of or sell. Does anyone know what in general the movers charge per pound? It would be from AZ to NC. Thinking the fridge, w/d, the adjustable bed, and the trundle bed may be better to sell or donate. They were kind of expensive, but are those things just too heavy? Some furniture we already know we are not taking and some we definitely will. Nothing antique or irreplaceable, or highly expensive, but some decent pieces. And we have lots of books and music, which we will thin out, but want to take most of that b/c it is hard to replace. Is it realistic to take these? Thanks in advance for any insights. Can the US government really do anything about companies moving jobs overseas? We live in a free country, so how could the president really stop this? And why are the companies doing it? Is it because products can be manufactured cheaper in places like China? Even if that is the case, they're leaving millions of US employees jobless, right? So more and more people in our country won't be able to afford these products. Then aren't they shooting themselves in the foot? Which furniture & appliances are too heavy to be worth the cost of moving, as companies charge by weight? This would be for a long distance move. I should have been more specific. Do you mean that they charge either by weight or by distance, but not both? I thought that they weigh the truck. If we do move it would be from AZ to NC. The heavy items I am wondering about are-- fridge, front loading washer and matching dryer and 2 adjustable beds - twin. They were a bit pricey- don't recall just how much. Wondering if the weight would make it cost too much to move these items. And we have lots of books and music. Will weed this out some, but those are hard to replace. moving companies? i had to move to another state (from FL to NY) in a bit of a rush and needed to leave most of my belongings in storage in orlando. i was wondering if there was such a thing as a moving company that would transport my things from there to here. i'm sure there are such a company but where would i find such? i don't have many things (no big furnature; would all fit in large van) and would probbably cost a lot but it might be worth it rather than flying down, renting a van and driving for two days with hotel costs,etc.

Self-packing moving companies....? We are fixing to move from Az to Tn. I found a moving company, upack.com, where you pack your own things into their truck then they pack dry cargo in the rest of the truck and ship the cargo while they are moving your things to where you need them to go. The main things that we like about this is that your things are the only things that are in the truck, seperated from the cargo by a "wall", and we do all the packing. I have been quoted approx. $2500.00 for my move. How does this sound to everyone? Has anyone used this company or one similar to it? How was your experience good/bad?
