Is it okay to take passages/ quotes from books, and make illustrations depicting what you think of it?
Like taking a passage from a book, and drawing the scene out. Is that bad? or can I do that?

- yes
- As long as you give credit you're within legal reason.
- yes!!!!dur dur dur dur.And I thought I was an idiot...hehehehehehehe srry just had caffeine
- If you ask the provider I guess if you ask and you get the permission it's ok.
- You have to cite your sources for everything not written by you, and be sure the citation is complete. If the passage is too long, however, like a complete short story or expressed idea-- then no, you need written permission. And I do hope that when you wrote "... and drawing the scene out," you meant illustration only. :) Also, you will not be able to publish this without the written permission from those cited. ***First see what I saw in Wiki*** Check with Wiki... no I'll check around for you to be sure on this; or at least as sure as I can be-- (will try to be back soon) ***I looked for a bit under both "citations" (just tells you the many different kinds), and "copyright," which is a kettle of fish. To be on the safe side, I would say it looks as if, as long as you have proper citation, no taking of complete copyrighted story or formerly expressed (and copyrighted) idea, you can publish as well. Another :) But please take your time to study all of these things yourself before you do, because it gets a bit tangled up re: copyright. (Still, it looks like you can do these illustrations... hmmm, check it out if you plan to publish. Go to the library for real help, with assistance from a reference librarian.)*** But maybe you don't plan publication and this is all irrelevant; in which case, just cite sources and have a good time! Then I think you are good to go... Luck--
- yes sure. its your creativity and you live in a free land ie. USA. You could get in trouble in countires like france or germany, but in USA it is 100% okay.
- you can do it, but must acknowledge who's original work you are borrowing from,in college, when you present someone else's idea as your own it is called plagiarism, but there is no issue if you cite the source.
- Sure. Is it for personal use or do you plan on sharing your illustrations? If you plan on sharing them, then you definitely want to give credit and cite your sources. If it's just for your own personal enjoyment, then don't worry about it.
- Sure, why not? I mean, why not be inspired by great literature?
- It's okay to do that. It only becomes a violation of copyright if you attempt to make profit off of a writer's stuff - so you can't sell any art you make that is inspired by an author's works, unless you have permission from the author to do so.
- You can do it, but you cannot publish it.
