how can I clean up the stainless steel exhaust tips to make them look better?

I have some used stainless steel tips that are off my car that are blackened and dirty, how can I make them look good again?

1. carb cleaner to remove the carbon and a good stainless cleaner/ polish to bring back the shine.
2. get a bag of 000 steel wool from the hardware store and go at them, they will clean up like new.
3. Clean with a mild car wash soap or a diluted degreaser. Use 0000 steel wool then follow up with a metal polish. Don't use a grade more abrasive than the 0000, you'll get scratches that you'll bust your butt to get out!
