What is the best recipe and or secrets to make sugar cookies when using cookie cutters?

Basically, I can make the cookies and cut them out, but by the time they come out of the oven they are all puffy and you can't tell which shape they were supposed to be. Am I not rolling the dough thin enough? I've tried multiple times and they always come out distorted. Thank you!

  1. it is to think so fix the dough or redue it
  2. Don't do them too thin then they'll be too crispy & dry...You may have to omit baking powder--it's purpose is to rise.
