I work once a week at a bakery, I always end up snacking, any secrets of how to resist temptation?
I mean, its easy enough to know that you dont want it, but I'm slowly overcoming an addiction to food, and when its sitting in front of me, i usally end up eating it. (Im getting better) (much). but nevertheless, the bakery food always some how tempts me. I was wondering if anybody had any like secrets of how they stay away from the things that they love?

- Fill up before you go to work. Just like before a dinner party or something have a meal at home so you won't eat alot when you get there. As time passes those cupcakes won't be so tempting anymore..
- Eat a BIG, healthy meal beforehand so you're full when you go to work. =]
- There is a reason why they say never trust a skinny baker... ALL bakers are fat, for that exact reasons. You are better off finding a new job if you lack the will power to abstain.
- Just say No! Brainwash youself, thats what I do. Put it out of your head. Turn your back, push it off on someone else!
- Well, I worked in a restaurant and I also had that problem -- it was there so why not eat it. I found that having water -- and drinking alot of water -- kept me full -- too full! So it was much easier to resist temptation. Plus, keep in mind all those extra pounds and calories you'll be putting on. Hey I know, how about find a poster of a very THIN person you like alot and wouldn't mind looking like. Hang it someplace in the bakery where you could see it, like maybe the restroom for employees. That might keep you focused and off the sweets. Good luck!!!!!!
- Wear a muzzle.
- Take a month where you eat nothing but wondrous baked goods for breakfast lunch and dinner. Just keep shoving them in all month long. After that, you'll probably never snack at work again for the rest of your life.
- I work in a bakery as well. I understand your issues about resisting temptation! I work with several women who sit around all day and snack, although I do not. I take my own healthy snacks to work and at the end of the day I take a sample (cookie, brownie, whatever) home with me if I was good that day. Perhaps rewarding yourself at the end of being good will help you. And if you do mess up, don't beat yourself up! Just start over! You'll get the hang of it.
- Snack on fruits and lettuce instead. Take it with you if it is not readily available where you work.
- Drink alot of water before work and while at work ,your stomach will stay full of water and you won't want to eat!
- don't go to work hungry. i find that it helps to chew gum, especially a minty flavor. also, sipping on water whenever i want to eat something that i know i shouldn't helps me. keep a bottle of water nearby, and take a small sip whenever you feel the need to snack. also, you could keep healthy snacks, such as carrot or celery sticks, nearby to eat whenever you want to eat those pastries, or snack on them on breaks, to curb any hunger you have. possibly, allow yourself 1 bakery snack every day, and set a date to stop completely, then keep your promise to yourself. good luck!
- Well I agree with smart girl. The other thing in addition to what it was that she said. You are only in the bakery once a week. If you are eating healthy every day and are not finding yourself snacking on tabu foods through out the week, then go ahead and treat yourself to a goody. It is not cheating. Pick out one item (within moderation) and take small portions of it through out your day. You will have it there if you want it, and can always make the choice to save it for later. Congratulations on your great accomplishment. Keep up the awareness and best wishes with subduing your addiction and always be true to yourself first.
- I know that feeling. I'm good too, as long as it's not in my face! Drink lots and lots of water so you're full. Chew sugarless gum or eat sugar-free mints. If you can't chew gum or eat mints, brush your teeth a lot--hardly anything mixes well with toothpaste flavor. One thing you can do--it's kinda gross--take home something you like from the bakery, put it in the blender and look at how disgusting it is. (This works really good with potato chips which turn into an oily sludge.) Think about the frosting made from CRISCO and SUGAR--absolutely disgusting to think about--yuck--would you eat a scoop of Crisco? No way. So why eat the frosting? Same with donuts--fried sugar, how nasty is that? Psych yourself out. You can also set up a reward program for yourself. Give yourself points or put a dollar in a jar or something every time you work there and DON'T eat. When you get a certain number of points or dollars treat yourself to something NON FOOD like a new sweater or movie date with yourself or a CD you've been wanting.
