Best application and interview tips for an internal job promotion?

I work for a great company doing entry level stuff. I've worked there since July. I have nearly completed my Master's degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with an emphasis in Human Resources. Just today my company announced that they are hiring a new Human Resource Representative!!! I looked over the job description and it sounds EXACTLY like what I want to do! I'm also very well qualified for the job, according to the qualifications they posted. Now, I just have to apply for this job and hopefully they'll call me for an interview. Any tips you can give me?

  1. swim with the sharks
  2. Use most of your question in the cover letter on your resume! It's great!
  3. kudos on the Masters in IO... I work in the world of corporate training and OD, and can't think of a better job in the world! Here are my suggestions: 1. Do some soul searching on if this is the best job for you, or if it just is appealing because it will get you out of entry level rut. 2. Have a conversation with your manager letting him/her know that you're about you finish your degree, and you're looking to take the next step. Depending on the firm either ask "What do I have to do to get to the next level" or express interest on the specific postion and ask who you need to talk to.
