- you dont actually need any qualifications just need to demonstrate a good eye for what shades suit people and that you can put makeup on
- i would reccomend taking courses in cosmetology. showing that you put effort into your field will always earn you higher pay if you are just starting out.
- I agree with Livvy, you don't need any qualifications. Those are sales jobs more than anything else. If you were interested in cosmetics why not join a salon as a make up artist or go self employed doing wedding make up. I'm paying my wedding makeup artist £190 for 4 peoples make up, maybe an hours work at her rate. Not bad! If you did want to take a course the best person to ask would be someone within the college, they can tell you about the career path the course provides you.
- I would suggest that you do a course (in basic cosmetology / makeup, etc). Doing courses and getting qualifications shows prospective employers that you're serious about the industry you want to work in. Plus, these days with Health & Safety regulations, many employers won't hire you unless you have at least a basic knowledge of of the industry. The other option is to join a "promotions" agency (one that hires out sales assistants to cosmetic companies in department stores) and work at different sites until you find a company you like. Good luck!
- Not sure what you like about the make up position in a department store honestly most of them are not trained. If you like that field then cosmetology makes sense. In the mean time you can look into a part time job at one of those place to see if you really like it. I started my own business with Mary Kay and I love it
