Words I can say to make someone trust me with their secrets?
How can I get somebody that I deeply care about to open up to me? I never spread secrets, this person who I want to open up to me has been hurt in the past and doesn't trust people in general. what are some things that I can say and do to make them comfortable and trust me. I heard that saying somebodies name constantly can make them warm to you. what else? such as 'why don't you trust me' or what? best answer wins 10 points.

- Actions not words - show you are trustworthy. For example it won't do to say (words) tell me stuff why don't you trust me if you are telling (actions) them other friends deepest secrets. If you are a gasbag running to them with the latest gossip or making fun of other people's quirks they are not going to trust you with their deepest, darkest. Two people can keep a secret if one of them is dead.
- You can't 'say' a thing, as words or just that. You can, however show them by ACTIONS, like backing your words up... That is the only way I know of as I have heard lots of words in my life and have learned to wait wait wait for it, the words and actions often do not support the same theory. Leave the words to the schmoes, take action.
- Be patient with the person, don't interrupt when he/she is talking, maintain eye contact but do not stare, just keep listening and use your body language e..g don't fold your arm, have your body facing toward this person but do not come to close ( invading personal space) and again be patient, trust needs to be earned. Good Luck
- Some people are slow to trust and open up and require that trust be built over time as opposed to just giving it because someone said the magic words. I would allow the person to open up when they feel comfortable doing so. In the meantime you can show that you are there for them by listening attentively and not pushing. People also tend to open up as a result of someone sharing something personal about themselves. So if you open up the other person is also likely to open up.
